Our Association

Founded in 1976 and established in 1986 as a nonprofit organization, the Association for Equality and Excellence in Education, Inc. (AEEE) is a regional association of Academic professionals, administrators, faculty, staff, student alumni, parents and policy makers dedicated to serve and further the opportunities for low-income, first-generation students, veterans and students with disabilities in New York and New Jersey.

Through numerous membership services and opportunities, AEEE works in conjunction with colleges, universities, and agencies that host TRIO programs to specifically help low-income students enter in and graduate from college. Annually over 32,000 low-income students and students with disabilities each year receive college access and retention services through our member 151 programs located at colleges and agencies New York and New Jersey.

AEEE brings together TRIO program professionals, educators and other individuals who have shared similar interests and advocate for the educational and cultural development of all underrepresented and underserved populations served by TRIO programs throughout the New York and New Jersey region. The Association offers access to and opportunity for growth through professional development, collegial assistance and support, scholarship and much more for program personnel, interested individuals and students alike.

The Conference

Every year, TRIO colleagues across New York & New Jersey come together in an intimate setting to share best practices with peers at our annual conference. This professional development conference is designed to provide attendees with direct access to presenters, priceless opportunities for networking, product and software innovations, and the ability to participate in open discussions and learn about changes needed to better serve our students. The conference features discussions on new trends in college access, retention and proven best practices that will improve regional Trio programs ability to better service students.  Attendees also come to the annual conference to hear new ideas, meet new colleagues and generate renewed energy. 44th Annual Conference, Transforming Risk Into Opportunity, through courage, creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking, will be held 100% virtually! AEEE’s priority is the health and safety of our TRIO community, including our members, staff, supporters, vendors, and volunteers. As the COVID-19 pandemic continued to unfold, it became clear that in the face of an unprecedented situation, we needed to make tough choices. While it took longer than expected to reach a resolution, we believe that this was handled with the precision necessary to preserve the well-being of the Association while creating an opportunity for success both in the present and future. Despite the disruption we are facing,  AEEE is excited to leverage our technology to disseminate valuable, relevant, and timely content. #AEEE44.
