Pre-College

Educators: Assemble!  We all have our own unique strengths, resources, and knowledge. We are heroes to our students, but we cannot win these battles alone. It is especially important to work together and ensure our students have the resources to achieve their collegiate goals during these challenging times. Luckily, each of our TRiO programs works within schools and communities that allow endless opportunities for collaboration. Exchanging our resources and utilizing each other’s superpowers will help us all achieve our common goal – our students’ success in obtaining a college degree. This presentation will introduce some partnership strategies utilized by the David T. Kearns Center’s Upward Bound and Talent Search programs. Whether you are seeking out your superhero partners or looking to strengthen your existing super-team, you will leave this workshop with tools and strategies for in-person and virtual collaboration initiatives.

Kearns Center and the University’s curriculum committee and how this partnership led to the creation of a credit-bearing seminar course that can be implemented in SSS or McNair Programs. We will also explore the curriculum of this course, including pedagogy and course components.

Envisioning a range of future opportunities can be incredibly challenging for TRiO students due to the structural barriers they face. As TRiO professionals, there are a range of tools and processes that may be employed to facilitate a widening of options for our students, based on their individual values, interests, talents, and goals. In this fun, interactive session, we will practice three of these processes: values inventory assessment, personal story-telling, and future visioning, in order to build our professional knowledge and skills together.
